Status & Next Steps

Pre-investment phase: current status, planned milestones, and alignment with the Brazilian biomethane strategy.

Current Phase

The project is in the pre-investment phase (Pre-FID). The consortium’s strategic direction is consolidated; the structuring of the corporate architecture and the financing pathways is under way.

What We Are Currently Working On

Corporate structuring Finalising suitable German and Brazilian corporate vehicles as the project's formal structure.
Financing exploration Exploratory talks with public and concessional lenders along the architecture of the Brazilian BNDES programme.
Financing readiness Preparing the documentation that international lenders such as IFC and IDB Invest require for a financing commitment.
Regional substrate pools Building the regional substrate and logistics pools on the Brazilian side — coordinated via the regional BR page.

Planned Milestones

At this early stage we deliberately refrain from committing to firm dates. The planned sequence:

Step 1

Structure finalised

Suitable German and Brazilian corporate vehicles as the project's formal structure.

Step 2

Confirmed financeability

Supported by private large-scale investors and strategic industrial partners, backed by development banks — the Brazilian development bank BNDES and international development finance institutions (DFI) such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and IDB Invest.

Step 3

FID Phase 1

Investment decision for the first construction stage, planned for early 2027.

Step 4

Construction Phase 1

Construction and commissioning of the first stage; commissioning planned for towards the end of the 2020s.

Step 5

FID Phase 2

Investment decision for the full build-out, based on the experience gained in Phase 1.

Step 6

Construction Phase 2

Modular build-out to target capacity on pre-installed infrastructure.

Alignment with the Brazilian Biomethane Strategy

Monte Alto fits within the national Brazilian framework for biomethane — a regulatory framework that eases acceptance among international investors.

L

Lei dos Combustíveis do Futuro

Lei 14.993/2024 — the national biomethane blending strategy as regulatory tailwind.

P

PNBB

Programa Nacional do Biometano — the national biomethane programme.

A

CETESB / ANP

The competent Brazilian authorities for environmental and energy permitting as well as biomethane specification.

R

RenovaBio / CBIO

Optional link to the national decarbonisation programme with CBIO certificates.

Platform Expansion

Outlook The content presented here is part of a lean public visibility page. A more comprehensive project platform with additional stakeholder pathways, technical depth, and interactive elements is envisaged for a later project phase.
